Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Is Here: Story, Multiplayer, DMZ and Platforms
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has officially arrived, bringing the latest chapter in Activision's Modern Warfare storyline to current-generation consoles and PC.
Led by Infinity Ward, the game takes the series into a large-scale international conflict centered around the Korean Peninsula. Players experience the war from different perspectives, including a young South Korean soldier fighting on the front lines and Captain Price operating independently behind enemy lines.
Modern Warfare 4 also expands beyond its campaign with a new multiplayer experience and the return of DMZ, giving players several ways to experience the latest Call of Duty release.

Modern Warfare 4 Release Date
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide on October 23, 2026.
The game is available on:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC
- Nintendo Switch 2
The new release does not support PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, making it a current-generation-only Call of Duty title.

A New Global Conflict
The story begins with a major escalation on the Korean Peninsula after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion.
Players take the role of Private Park, a young South Korean soldier experiencing frontline combat alongside his squad. The campaign focuses on the chaos of a rapidly expanding conflict and the struggle to survive as the battlefield changes around the characters.
At the same time, Captain Price is pursuing his own mission outside the traditional military chain of command. His search eventually becomes connected to the larger conflict, putting him on a collision course with the forces responsible for the escalating war.
Campaign Takes Players Around the World
Modern Warfare 4 isn't limited to one battlefield.
The campaign includes several different environments, ranging from trench warfare in Korea to urban combat in New York. Players will also encounter high-speed action in Paris, covert SAS operations in Mumbai and large-scale assaults aimed at reclaiming occupied areas.
This variety is designed to keep the campaign moving between different types of combat instead of relying on one style of mission.
Multiplayer Brings New Combat Options
Multiplayer focuses on precise gunplay, movement and greater control during firefights.
The game launched with 12 new 6v6 Core maps, giving players a fresh selection of locations for traditional multiplayer matches. One of the game's new multiplayer concepts is Ballistic Authority, which puts additional emphasis on weapon-focused combat and gunplay.
For players who prefer competitive multiplayer, the combination of new maps, weapons and movement mechanics is one of the biggest parts of the Modern Warfare 4 experience.
DMZ Returns
DMZ is also back as a major part of Modern Warfare 4.
Instead of simply competing in traditional multiplayer matches, players enter contested areas, complete objectives, collect valuable resources and decide when it is safer to extract.
That creates a different style of Call of Duty gameplay because surviving a deployment can be just as important as winning individual fights. The developers describe DMZ as an extraction-focused experience where each deployment can force players to make decisions about objectives, resources and when to leave.
Modern Warfare 4 on Nintendo Switch 2
One of the notable additions is the game's release on Nintendo Switch 2.
Infinity Ward is working with Digital Legends on the Switch 2 version, while the PC release receives additional optimization work from Infinity Ward and Beenox.
The move to Switch 2 also means Nintendo players can experience a major Call of Duty release on the newer hardware rather than the older Switch system.
Campaign Early Access and Game Pass
Players who digitally pre-ordered Modern Warfare 4 received Campaign Early Access starting October 16, one week before the official October 23 launch.
Modern Warfare 4 also launched as a standalone purchase rather than being included with Game Pass at launch. Activision later confirmed that the game would not be available through Game Pass until Holiday 2027.
Final Thoughts
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 takes the franchise into a new global conflict while continuing Captain Price's storyline.
Its combination of a large-scale campaign, traditional 6v6 multiplayer and the return of DMZ gives players several different ways to play. With the move to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2, the latest Modern Warfare also represents another step away from the previous console generation.
For longtime Call of Duty fans, the biggest question is whether Modern Warfare 4 can deliver the strong campaign, multiplayer gunplay and long-term online experience the franchise is known for.
