A More Distinctive RS Design
The Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design stands apart from the regular Mate 90 models with its more elaborate rear design.
Huawei has used a premium titanium-based chassis combined with a distinctive textured rear panel. The large camera module remains the visual centerpiece, while the body uses curved elements and decorative patterns to create a luxury-oriented appearance.
The phone is offered in three finishes: Red, White and Black. Huawei's official design materials highlight its Dynamic Grating Kunlun Glass and Star Diamond-inspired visual treatment.
At approximately 248 grams, the Mate 90 RS is certainly not a lightweight smartphone. Its 8.4mm body also reflects the amount of hardware packed inside the flagship.
6.9-Inch Dual-Layer OLED Display
The Mate 90 RS features a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display with a resolution of 2848 × 1320 pixels.
One of the major highlights is its 1Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, allowing the display to adjust its refresh rate according to the content being shown. Huawei also lists 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and a 300Hz touch sampling rate.
The panel supports up to 1.07 billion colors and covers the wide BT.2020 color gamut.
Huawei has also equipped the phone with its newer Basalt Kunlun Glass, which is designed to improve resistance to scratches and accidental drops.
Kirin 9050 Pro Processor
Powering the Mate 90 RS is Huawei's Kirin 9050 Pro chipset.
The processor is part of Huawei's latest flagship silicon platform and is also used in other premium Mate 90-series devices. The company has developed a new chip architecture known as LogicFolding, which restructures internal chip wiring into a three-dimensional layout to increase density and performance.
Huawei's latest phones also run HarmonyOS 7, rather than Google's Android-based software platform. Reuters reports that Huawei says the operating system now supports more than 450,000 apps and services.
Up to 2TB of Storage
One of the biggest upgrades for storage enthusiasts is the Mate 90 RS's 2TB internal storage option.
Huawei offers the phone with:
- 16GB RAM + 512GB storage
- 16GB RAM + 1TB storage
- 16GB RAM + 2TB storage
There is no microSD card slot, so buyers who need additional capacity will have to choose their preferred storage configuration at purchase.
The 2TB configuration gives the Mate 90 RS an enormous amount of space for high-resolution photographs, 4K video, applications and large files.
Triple Rear Camera System
Huawei continues to make photography a major focus of its premium Mate lineup.
The Mate 90 RS features a triple rear camera setup consisting of:
50MP Main Camera
The primary camera uses a 50MP RYYB sensor with a variable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture and optical image stabilization.
The variable aperture allows the camera to adjust how much light reaches the sensor and can also provide greater control over depth of field.
40MP Ultrawide Camera
The ultrawide camera uses a 40MP RYYB sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.
The higher resolution and RYYB technology are designed to provide Huawei with greater flexibility for wide-angle photography and low-light shooting.
200MP Telephoto Camera
The most eye-catching camera specification is the 200MP telephoto sensor.
It features optical image stabilization and supports telephoto macro photography. Huawei lists approximately 4x optical zoom, with the camera system offering focal lengths equivalent to around 24mm, 13mm and 89mm depending on the camera being used.
The combination of a high-resolution telephoto sensor and Huawei's computational photography technology should make the Mate 90 RS particularly versatile for zoom photography.
Premium Titanium Construction
Huawei has given the RS model a high-end chassis built around a high-brightness titanium frame.
The company also uses different versions of Kunlun Glass across the phone, including Dynamic Grating Kunlun Glass for the rear and optical Kunlun Glass around the camera area.
This material combination reinforces the Ultimate Design branding and gives the Mate 90 RS a substantially more luxurious identity than conventional flagship smartphones.
HarmonyOS 7
The Mate 90 RS runs HarmonyOS 7.0 out of the box.
Huawei continues to develop HarmonyOS as an independent software ecosystem, reducing its dependence on Google's Android platform.
The latest version is designed to provide a connected experience across Huawei's smartphone, tablet, wearable and other smart-device ecosystem.
Huawei Mate 90 RS: What Stands Out?

Final Thoughts
The Huawei Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design takes the Mate series further into the luxury flagship category. Instead of simply increasing specifications, Huawei has focused on premium materials, distinctive styling, advanced display technology, high-resolution cameras and extremely large storage configurations.
The 2TB storage option, 16GB of RAM and 200MP telephoto camera are among its most notable hardware features, while the titanium frame and Kunlun Glass give the phone a more exclusive appearance.
Huawei is also using the Mate 90 lineup to demonstrate its progress with homegrown hardware and software. The Kirin 9050 Pro and HarmonyOS 7 represent the company's continued effort to build a premium smartphone ecosystem despite restrictions affecting access to advanced semiconductor technology.
With its combination of luxury design, flagship hardware and extensive storage, the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design is clearly aimed at buyers looking for Huawei's most feature-packed and premium Mate 90 experience.
