GTA 6 Release Date: Everything You Need to Know Before Launch

After years of anticipation, Grand Theft Auto VI is finally just weeks away from release.

Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on November 19, 2026, bringing players back to Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. The game is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

With the launch approaching, here is everything you need to know about GTA 6, including its release date, story, characters, platforms, editions and pre-order details.

When Does GTA 6 Release?

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026.

Rockstar originally announced the game for 2025 before delaying it to give the development team additional time. The company later confirmed November 19, 2026, as the new release date.

The official Rockstar website currently lists November 19 as the game's launch date.

Which Platforms Will Get GTA 6?

At launch, GTA 6 is confirmed for:

• PlayStation 5
• Xbox Series X|S

Rockstar has not announced an official PC release date. That means PC players should not expect GTA 6 to arrive alongside the console versions unless Rockstar changes its plans.

Recent reports have suggested that a PC version could arrive sometime in 2027, but Rockstar has not officially confirmed a PC launch window.

The game will not be released for PS4 or Xbox One.

GTA 6 Returns to Vice City

One of the biggest attractions of GTA 6 is its setting.

The game takes players back to Vice City, Rockstar's fictional version of Miami. However, the new game expands beyond the city itself and introduces the wider state of Leonida.

Rockstar describes Leonida as the game's larger setting, with Vice City at its center.

The world includes different environments and locations, giving players a much larger area to explore than the original Vice City game.

Meet GTA 6's Main Characters

GTA 6 follows two central characters: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

Jason and Lucia are criminals who become partners while trying to make money in Leonida. Their relationship becomes increasingly complicated after a job goes wrong and they find themselves caught in a much larger criminal conspiracy.

Rockstar has already shown both characters in trailers and gameplay footage, giving fans a closer look at their personalities, relationship and criminal activities.

The dual-protagonist approach also allows players to switch between the characters during parts of the game.

What Is the GTA 6 Story About?

Rockstar is keeping many story details secret, but the basic premise is already known.

Jason and Lucia believe they have found a way to make an easy score. Things do not go according to plan, however, and the pair become involved in a conspiracy that stretches across Leonida.

Their relationship will be an important part of the story as they try to survive in a world filled with criminals, law enforcement and competing interests.

As with previous GTA games, players can expect a mixture of crime, action, satire, exploration and open-world activities.

GTA 6 Gameplay and Open-World Activities

The trailers released by Rockstar have shown a variety of gameplay features and activities.

Players can expect driving, shooting, robberies and exploration, along with numerous activities outside the main story.

The game has also shown racing, water activities, gyms and other forms of entertainment that help make Leonida feel like a living world.

Switching between Jason and Lucia is another major gameplay element, giving players different perspectives on the game's events.

Rockstar has also emphasized the scale and detail of the world, with dynamic environments, crowds and interactions designed to make the setting feel more alive.

GTA 6 Pre-Orders and Editions

GTA 6 is available to pre-order ahead of its November launch.

Rockstar has announced two main editions:

GTA 6 Standard Edition

The Standard Edition includes the base game along with the Vintage Vice City Pack for eligible pre-orders and purchases made before the specified deadline.

Digital pre-orders also include a free month of GTA+.

GTA 6 Ultimate Edition

The Ultimate Edition costs more and includes the base game plus an expanded collection of premium vehicles, weapons, clothing and other bonuses.

Rockstar lists the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 in the United States.

When Can You Preload GTA 6?

Players who purchase the digital version can begin preloading GTA 6 on November 12, one week before the official launch.

The physical version is also scheduled to become available on November 12 and contains a download code rather than a traditional game disc, allowing buyers to begin preparing the game before launch.

Rockstar has not yet published official worldwide launch times for every region.

How Big Will GTA 6 Be?

One of the biggest unanswered questions is the game's final installation size.

A reported PS5 file size of around 210GB has circulated online, but that figure has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar.

Players should therefore avoid treating leaked or backend-derived file-size information as final. The actual download size could change before launch or after release through updates.

Will GTA 6 Have GTA Online?

Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 as a single-player experience, while details about its future online component remain limited.

GTA Online continues to receive updates, and Rockstar has not provided a complete public breakdown of what the multiplayer experience connected to GTA 6 will look like.

For now, players should focus on the confirmed single-player launch rather than treating rumors about GTA 6 Online as official information.

GTA 6 Is Almost Here

After years of delays, rumors and speculation, the wait for GTA 6 is finally approaching its end.

Rockstar's biggest upcoming release is scheduled for November 19, 2026, with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players getting access first.

The game returns to Vice City with Jason and Lucia at the center of a criminal story set across Leonida. Rockstar is promising a huge open world filled with activities, characters and detailed environments.

For PC players, the wait is likely to continue beyond the console launch because Rockstar has not announced an official PC release date.

With only weeks remaining before launch, GTA 6 is shaping up to be one of the biggest video game releases of 2026.
