XREAL Aura Launches at $1,279 With Android XR and Gemini

XREAL has officially revealed pricing for its highly anticipated Aura XR glasses, bringing Google's Android XR platform and Gemini AI into a lightweight wearable device.

The XREAL Aura starts at $1,279 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration, while a more powerful 16GB RAM and 512GB storage version costs $1,499. The glasses are currently available for preorder to eligible reservation holders, with broader orders expected to open in the coming weeks.

What Are the XREAL Aura XR Glasses?

The XREAL Aura is a pair of spatial-computing glasses developed through a collaboration between XREAL, Google and Qualcomm.

Rather than putting all of the processing hardware directly inside the glasses, Aura uses a separate computing unit called the Puck. The glasses connect to this compact device, which handles processing, connectivity and battery power.

This split-compute approach allows XREAL to keep the glasses relatively lightweight while still providing access to a full Android XR experience.

70-Degree Field of View

One of the Aura's biggest hardware highlights is its 70-degree diagonal field of view.

The transparent optical design allows users to see the real world while digital content is displayed in front of them. This makes the Aura different from conventional VR headsets that completely block the user's surroundings.

XREAL previously described the 70-degree view as its largest optical-see-through display, designed to combine digital content with awareness of the physical environment.

The glasses weigh less than 95 grams, although the separate Puck is required for the full Android XR experience.

Android XR and Gemini Built In

The Aura runs Android XR, Google's operating system designed specifically for extended-reality devices.

Users can access Android applications through Google Play, while Google's Gemini AI provides an additional layer of assistance and interaction.

The combination could allow users to interact with digital information while keeping their physical surroundings visible. XREAL has demonstrated applications including Google Maps, YouTube, WebXR experiences and AI-powered interactions.

A Dedicated Compute Puck

The Puck is one of the most important parts of the Aura system.

It contains the main processing hardware, battery and connectivity components, allowing the glasses themselves to remain relatively compact.

The Puck also features a touchpad and fingerprint sensor, giving users another way to navigate the Android XR interface. XREAL suggests carrying it using a lanyard or attaching it to clothing or another nearby surface.

Users can also connect the glasses to compatible computers through USB-C DisplayPort, allowing Aura to function as an external display.

Aura Specifications and Pricing

XREAL is offering the Aura in two hardware configurations:

ModelRAMStoragePrice
XREAL Aura12GB256GB$1,279
XREAL Aura16GB512GB$1,499

The glasses will also be offered in different sizes to accommodate different interpupillary distances.

Designed for Movies, Gaming and Productivity

XREAL is positioning Aura as more than just an AR display.

The company sees potential applications across entertainment, gaming, productivity, education and professional use. Users can create large virtual screens for watching movies, extend computer displays and interact with spatial applications.

The 70-degree field of view could also make the device particularly interesting for people who want a large private display without carrying a traditional monitor.

At Google I/O, XREAL demonstrated large-screen video playback, YouTube 180- and 360-degree content, 3D video and spatial applications running through Android XR.

XREAL Aura vs Meta's New VR Glasses

The Aura enters a market that is quickly becoming more competitive.

Meta's newly announced VR Glasses are priced at $1,299, putting them only $20 above the entry-level XREAL Aura. Both products use a separate computing unit and target lightweight spatial computing.

However, the two devices take different approaches.

XREAL Aura uses transparent lenses, allowing users to naturally see their surroundings. Meta's glasses instead rely on camera-based passthrough technology.

The Aura also runs Android XR and has access to Android applications, while Meta's device is built around Horizon OS and its own ecosystem.

When Will XREAL Aura Ship?

XREAL says Aura is expected to begin shipping before the holidays, subject to production, quality-control and logistics conditions.

Initial shipping is planned for the United States, Canada, Japan and South Korea. XREAL says additional markets are expected to follow in 2027.

General public orders are expected to open in the coming weeks, although initial availability is being handled in phases because of high demand and existing reservations.

The Future of Android XR

The XREAL Aura represents an important step for Google's Android XR platform.

Instead of requiring users to wear a large VR headset, Aura attempts to bring spatial computing into a glasses-style form factor. Its combination of transparent optics, Android apps, Gemini AI and a separate computing puck could make XR more practical for everyday use.

At $1,279, however, Aura remains a premium product. Its success will likely depend on whether consumers find enough value in spatial computing to justify the price.

For now, XREAL Aura is shaping up to be one of the most interesting Android XR devices of 2026—and a serious competitor to the emerging generation of lightweight spatial-computing glasses.
