Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) will not include microtransactions or generative AI when the game launches later this year. The announcement gives players some positive news ahead of one of the most highly anticipated game releases in years.

Rockstar shared the details during a recent conversation with Kinda Funny Games. According to the discussion, the studio was directly asked whether players would be able to spend real-world money on items or content inside GTA 6.

Rockstar reportedly responded that there will be no monetization in the game at launch. This means players should not expect the usual microtransaction systems that allow users to buy virtual items, currency, or other content using real money.

The decision could be particularly welcome for players who have been waiting more than a decade for the next main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. Microtransactions have become common in many major games, but their inclusion can also attract criticism from players.

No Generative AI in GTA 6

Rockstar was also asked about the use of generative artificial intelligence during the game’s development. Greg Miller of Kinda Funny reportedly asked the studio directly whether GTA 6 uses generative AI.

The response was simple: Rockstar said there is no AI used in the game.

Generative AI has become a controversial subject across the gaming industry. Some developers have used AI tools during development, while others have faced criticism from players and industry professionals over their use.

Players who prefer traditionally developed game content welcome Rockstar’s decision to avoid generative AI.

Ultimate Edition Still Offers Extra Content

While GTA 6 will not have traditional microtransactions at launch, Rockstar will still offer additional content through the game’s Ultimate Edition.

The Ultimate Edition will cost $99.99, while the standard version costs $79.99. The more expensive edition includes several exclusive items and bonuses connected to the game’s characters, Jason and Lucia.

These bonuses include cosmetic content, vehicles, weapons and access to certain locations. Some of the exclusive content includes the Electric Fang tattoo parlor and Stock 305 clothing store.

Rockstar has also confirmed that players who purchase the standard edition will be able to buy an upgrade to the Ultimate Edition separately.

This means GTA 6 will still have premium content, but it will not use the same type of ongoing microtransaction system seen in many online games.

GTA 6 Release Date

Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Rockstar has already shown more details about the game, but fans can expect additional information before launch. The game will take players back to Vice City and introduce protagonists Jason and Lucia as they become involved in a criminal story.

For now, the confirmation about microtransactions and generative AI gives players two fewer concerns to think about. However, questions remain about the future of Grand Theft Auto Online and whether Rockstar will introduce a new online experience after GTA 6 arrives.
