The rollout initially kicked off in India, where Galaxy S26 users running One UI 9.0 (based on Android 17) can now download the update. Weighing in at a modest 96MB, the lightweight package suggests a focus on under-the-hood bug fixes rather than flashy new surface features.

Per its usual approach, Google hasn't released a detailed changelog for this specific release. While the company's general system documentation mentions security patches and stability improvements for the Play Store, Galaxy users are unlikely to notice any visual changes to the interface or daily functionality after upgrading.

Unlike standard One UI updates—which are packaged and pushed over-the-air (OTA) by Samsung—Google Play System updates allow Google to directly patch core Android components, bypassing device manufacturers entirely. Depending on the specific device model and region, the actual download size may vary from the initial 96MB observed.

Users can manually check for the availability of the patch by navigating to Settings > About phone > Software information > Google Play system update. Once downloaded and the device is restarted, a "September 1, 2026" timestamp will confirm the successful installation.
