vivo V80 Hands-On Review: 144Hz AMOLED Display, ZEISS Cameras and 7,200mAh Battery
vivo has officially introduced the vivo V80, bringing a premium-looking design, ZEISS camera technology, a high-refresh-rate AMOLED display, and a much larger battery to the V-series lineup. We spent several days with the phone to see how it performs in everyday use, gaming, photography, and charging.
The V80 combines a 6.59-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, up to 512GB storage, four ZEISS-branded cameras, and a 7,200mAh battery. It also ships with Android 17-based OriginOS 7.
vivo V80 Design
The vivo V80 features a premium flat design with a high-strength aluminum frame and glass-coated rear panel. The phone is available in Sunrise Anthem, Horizon Blue, and Stellar Black finishes.
The Sunrise Anthem version has a distinctive finish that changes appearance depending on the lighting and viewing angle. The rear camera system uses what vivo calls a Floating Camera Module, incorporating the ZEISS branding, LED flash, Aura Light, and three rear cameras.
The handset feels solid in the hand, while the matte aluminum frame helps reduce fingerprints. The bundled transparent case also helps minimize the camera module's tendency to make the phone wobble when placed on a flat surface.
The V80 carries IP68 and IP69 ratings, adding strong protection against dust and water.
6.59-Inch 144Hz AMOLED Display
The front of the vivo V80 is dominated by a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 2,750 x 1,260 resolution and 459ppi pixel density.
The panel supports 1.07 billion colors, HDR, HDR10+, and HLG. It is protected by Schott Xensation Core glass and also carries Widevine L1 certification for compatible high-quality streaming services.
Brightness is one of the display's biggest strengths. The panel reaches a 5,000-nit local peak brightness, while high-brightness mode reaches 1,800 nits. It can also drop to just 1 nit for more comfortable viewing in dark environments.
The display supports refresh rates up to 144Hz, although 144Hz is reserved for gaming. Users can choose between 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, and 144Hz depending on the application and mode.
The built-in 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner was also fast and accurate during testing, although there were occasional minor delays immediately after unlocking the phone.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Performance
Powering the vivo V80 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset. The phone comes with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and storage options reaching up to 512GB UFS 3.1.
Our tested model featured 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
For everyday tasks, the V80 delivered reliable performance. Apps generally opened smoothly, multitasking was handled well, and gaming performance was sufficient for demanding titles.
The phone remained reasonably cool after extended sessions of games such as Call of Duty: Mobile. However, a one-hour CPU throttling test was unable to complete because the handset became too hot after approximately 15 minutes, causing the system to close the testing application.
In Geekbench 6, the V80 recorded 1,242 points in single-core and 3,622 points in multi-core testing. Its AnTuTu 11 score was approximately 1.28 million points.

Android 17 and OriginOS 7
The vivo V80 is the first V-series smartphone to ship with OriginOS 7 based on Android 17.
The software introduces features including Wiggle Theme, StickIt, and Snap Notes, while retaining the familiar OriginOS experience.
vivo promises four Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates. According to vivo, security patches will arrive monthly during the first two years, quarterly during years three and four, and every six months during years five and six.
The Indian review unit also arrived with very little pre-installed third-party software, with Booking.com being the only notable third-party app included.
ZEISS Camera System
Photography is one of the major selling points of the vivo V80.
The smartphone has four cameras in total, with one camera on the front and three on the rear. All four are co-developed with ZEISS and use ZEISS optics.
The front camera is a 50MP ZEISS Group Selfie Camera with autofocus, an f/2.0 aperture, and a 92-degree field of view. It supports 0.8x to 2x magnification and can record video at up to 4K 60fps.
The rear camera system consists of:
- 50MP ZEISS main camera with Sony LYTIA 700V sensor
- 50MP ZEISS telephoto camera with Sony IMX882 sensor
- 8MP ZEISS ultrawide camera
The main camera features OIS, an f/1.88 aperture, and can record 4K video at 60fps. The telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom, OIS, and up to 100x digital zoom.
The ultrawide camera has a 115-degree field of view and an f/2.2 aperture. However, the 8MP resolution remains unchanged from previous V-series generations, making it one area where a higher-resolution sensor would have been welcome.
Camera Features
vivo has included several software-based photography features, including 4K Cinematic Video, AI Creative Camera, and AI Diwali Portrait 2.0.
The V80 also supports ZEISS Multifocal Portrait, offering five focal lengths:
- 23mm
- 35mm
- 50mm
- 85mm
- 100mm
Initial camera testing showed that the primary camera is capable of producing good images, although color consistency between standard Photo and High-Resolution modes could be improved, particularly in low-light situations.

7,200mAh Battery with 90W Charging
Battery life is another major upgrade on the vivo V80.
The phone packs a 7,200mAh silicon-carbon battery, up from the 6,500mAh battery used by the V70. Despite the larger capacity, charging remains at 90W.
The V80 also supports bypass charging, which can be useful during extended gaming sessions.
In vivo's testing, the phone is advertised to reach 50% charge in around 30 minutes using its bundled 100W FlashCharger. In actual testing, the phone reached:
- 21% in 15 minutes
- 45% in 30 minutes
- 50% in 32 minutes
- 94% in 60 minutes
- 100% in about 62 minutes
This makes the V80 a strong option for users who prioritize battery endurance, although its large battery means charging from empty still takes around an hour.
vivo V80 Verdict
The vivo V80 delivers a strong combination of premium design, a bright 144Hz AMOLED display, ZEISS cameras, long battery life, and updated software.
The 7,200mAh battery is particularly impressive, while the 50MP main and telephoto cameras provide a versatile photography setup. The 3x optical zoom and ZEISS portrait features should also appeal to users who enjoy mobile photography.
However, the phone isn't without weaknesses. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is the same platform used in previous V-series generations, while the 8MP ultrawide camera feels dated compared with the rest of the hardware. The phone can also become quite warm during extreme CPU workloads.
Overall, the vivo V80 looks like a well-rounded premium mid-range smartphone, particularly for users who value display quality, cameras, durability, software support, and battery life.
