Samsung Begins Mass Production of Exynos 2700 Ahead of Galaxy S27 Launch

Samsung has reportedly started mass production of its next-generation Exynos 2700 chipset, giving the company more time to prepare the processor for its upcoming Galaxy S27 series. However, it is still unclear whether the chip will power the top-end Galaxy S27 Ultra.

According to a report from Korean publication The Elec, Samsung has set a production target for the Exynos 2700 that is more than 10% higher than the target for the Exynos 2600. The increase is reportedly linked to the expected addition of the Galaxy S27 Pro to the company’s flagship lineup.

The Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, and Galaxy S27 Pro will use the Exynos 2700 in markets such as South Korea and Europe. In the US and China, these phones are reportedly expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 instead.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra remains the biggest question mark. Samsung’s System LSI division, which develops the Exynos chipset, is reportedly pushing for the Exynos 2700 to be used in the company’s most expensive S-series model. Using its own chipset in the Ultra could benefit Samsung’s semiconductor business while also demonstrating the performance of the new processor.

However, Samsung MX, the division responsible for its smartphones, will make the final decision. Several factors are reportedly being considered, including benchmark performance, thermal efficiency, Qualcomm’s chipset pricing and Samsung’s ability to produce enough Exynos 2700 units.

Earlier reports claimed that internal testing showed promising results for the Exynos 2700. The chip was reportedly around 9.5% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 in multi-core Geekbench testing. Qualcomm’s processor was still ahead in single-core performance. These results have not been independently verified, so they should be treated as early information rather than confirmed retail performance.

The Exynos 2700 is expected to be manufactured using Samsung’s second-generation SF2P 2nm Gate-All-Around process. Compared with the first-generation SF2 process used for the Exynos 2600, the newer manufacturing technology is claimed to deliver up to 12% better performance, 25% lower power consumption and an 8% smaller chip size.

Samsung is also expected to make architectural improvements to the processor. The Exynos 2700 could use Arm’s newer C2 CPU cores, replacing the C1 cores found in the Exynos 2600.

The start of mass production also fits the expected launch schedule for Samsung’s next flagship phones. Chipsets generally require several months of production and preparation before they are ready for commercial devices. If the current timeline remains unchanged, the Galaxy S27 series could arrive around February or March 2027.

For now, Samsung appears to be preparing the Exynos 2700 for several Galaxy S27 models, but the final decision on the Galaxy S27 Ultra has yet to be made.
