Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif held high-level strategic discussions with senior Huawei executives during her visit to China, exploring a comprehensive roadmap to advance artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, digital infrastructure, talent development, and smart public services across Punjab. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was accompanied by Mr. Ali Dar, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Artificial Intelligence, along with several provincial ministers and senior officials from the Government of Punjab.

With a shared vision of making Punjab “the most AI-enabled province in South Asia,” both sides discussed expanding cooperation from individual technology projects toward a province-wide AI and digital transformation ecosystem that can support economic growth, innovation, employment, and improved public services.

The discussions focused on developing secure and sovereign AI infrastructure within Pakistan, strengthening computing and data-center capabilities, and gradually deploying AI across government, public services, and industry. Huawei presented a proposed four-layer AI ecosystem covering infrastructure, AI capacity building, open and commercial AI models, and practical applications tailored to Punjab’s governance and economic needs.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif welcomed Huawei’s continued engagement with Punjab and appreciated the company’s willingness to support the province in building a modern, technology-driven and AI-enabled governance ecosystem. She emphasized the government’s commitment to using emerging technologies to improve efficiency, transparency, decision-making, and the quality and accessibility of services provided to citizens.

The proposed collaboration would also encourage the development of localized AI capabilities by combining cloud infrastructure, computing resources, relevant data, and specialized AI models. The objective is to ensure that AI solutions are responsive to Punjab’s local requirements and can be progressively expanded across government departments and key economic sectors.

Talent development and inclusive access to technology will be key pillars of Punjab’s AI strategy. Both sides will work together to strengthen AI skills across government, industry, academia, and local communities through training and talent development initiatives.

The exchange marks an important step in strengthening China-Pakistan digital cooperation, with Punjab advancing its vision of becoming the “Most AI-Enabled Province in South Asia.” Huawei will continue to work with Punjab to drive AI innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable development across the province.

To translate the shared vision into practical results, the proposed roadmap includes strengthening AI and cloud infrastructure, launching high-impact pilot projects, and developing successful use cases for wider deployment. Both sides also discussed the importance of an efficient government-enterprise coordination mechanism to facilitate communication, clarify responsibilities, accelerate decision-making, and ensure effective implementation.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif appreciated Huawei’s commitment to supporting Punjab’s digital transformation and welcomed deeper cooperation in AI, cloud computing, smart governance, digital skills, and emerging technologies. She said strategic partnerships with leading global technology companies could play an important role in building a digitally empowered, AI-enabled, innovative, and citizen-focused Punjab.

From Huawei, the meeting was attended by Mr. Mr. Antonony Gu Global President of Huawei Cloud Stack, Mr. Todd Liu Chairman of Huawei Pakistan and Mr. Ahmed Bilal Masud, CEO of Huawei Pakistan Cloud and AI Business.

The discussions laid the foundation for deeper cooperation aimed at building a smarter, more innovative, and digitally empowered Punjab. Through investment in infrastructure, human capital, innovation, and practical AI applications, the province aims to advance steadily toward its vision of becoming the most AI-enabled province in South Asia.
