Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered Brings a Classic Back With Modern Graphics

Fans of classic Musou games have a reason to celebrate as DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered brings one of the most influential entries in Koei Tecmo's long-running action series back to modern gaming platforms.

Developed by Omega Force, the remastered edition combines the original Dynasty Warriors 3 with its Xtreme Legends expansion. The game has been rebuilt with modern visuals while retaining the core gameplay that helped establish the series.

The remastered title launched on October 1, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam.

A Classic Dynasty Warriors Game Returns

Originally released in 2001, Dynasty Warriors 3 played an important role in shaping the Musou formula.

The game became known for its large-scale battles, allowing players to take on huge numbers of enemies while controlling famous characters from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms era.

According to Koei Tecmo, the original game introduced several features that became important parts of the franchise, including True Musou Attacks, simultaneous two-player gameplay and an officer development system. It was also the first entry in the series to sell more than one million copies.

Complete Edition Includes Xtreme Legends

The remastered release combines Dynasty Warriors 3 and Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends into one package.

That means players get the original campaign alongside additional content from the expansion.

The Xtreme Legends content adds new stories for seven officers, including Lu Bu, Meng Huo and Yuan Shao. It also includes additional weapons, bodyguard customization and several challenge modes.

More than 40 officers and numerous battlefields from the original game have been recreated using Unreal Engine 5.

New Combat Features

While the remaster aims to preserve the feel of the original game, Koei Tecmo has added several modern combat mechanics.

Players can now use an Evasion move to dodge attacks or temporarily retreat from combat. A perfectly timed dodge activates Just Evasion, allowing players to counterattack.

Another new mechanic is Perfect Power Guard, which can deflect attacks and stun enemies, creating an opportunity for a counterattack.

The game also introduces Weapon Fusion, allowing players to sacrifice unwanted weapons to transfer elemental attributes and skills to other equipment.

These additions are designed to make the classic combat system feel more responsive without completely changing its traditional Musou identity.

Massive 1 vs. 1,000 Battles

Large-scale combat remains at the heart of the experience.

Players can fight through battlefields filled with enormous numbers of opponents while managing their character's position, objectives and surrounding forces.

The remastered version retains the famous 1-vs.-1,000 style of gameplay that has become synonymous with the Dynasty Warriors franchise.

The visual upgrade also gives these huge battles a considerably more modern presentation.

Two-Player Local Multiplayer Returns

One of the most notable features making a comeback is offline two-player multiplayer.

Players can team up with another person or compete against each other using classic split-screen gameplay.

The game supports two-player action across Musou, Free and VS Modes, providing another way for longtime fans to experience the classic title.

New Scenarios and Unlockable Officers

The remastered edition doesn't simply reproduce the original game.

Koei Tecmo has added new scenarios and additional challenges alongside a large roster of unlockable officers.

This gives returning players new reasons to revisit familiar battles while allowing newcomers to experience the classic storyline and characters.

The game's setting draws heavily from the historical and literary world of the Three Kingdoms, featuring legendary figures such as Cao Cao, Guan Yu, Zhao Yun, Zhuge Liang and Lu Bu.

Unreal Engine 5 Upgrade

One of the biggest technical improvements is the move to Unreal Engine 5.

The technology has been used to recreate the game's officers and battlefields with significantly more detailed visuals.

At the same time, the developers have attempted to preserve the recognizable presentation and gameplay structure of the original title.

This creates a combination of nostalgic design and modern graphical technology rather than turning the game into a completely different experience.

Editions and Bonus Content

The game is available in Standard and Digital Deluxe editions.

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game along with additional items such as:

  • 42 weapons that can be used for fusion
  • Six Secret Teachings
  • Wind Scroll
  • Tiger Amulet
  • Officer Concept Art Collection
  • 42 retro costumes inspired by the original game

Players who pre-ordered before September 30 also received a Retro-Style Red Hare Saddle as a bonus.

Platforms and Price

DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered is available digitally on:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Nintendo Switch 2
  • Windows PC via Steam

The Standard Edition was announced at $39.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition was listed at $69.99 in the US.

The PlayStation version also supports PS5 Pro enhancements.

A Remaster Designed for Longtime Fans

Rather than completely reinventing the classic, Koei Tecmo has taken a preservation-focused approach with DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered.

The original campaign, characters and battlefield structure remain at the center of the experience, while Unreal Engine 5 graphics, new combat mechanics, weapon fusion and additional scenarios bring the game closer to modern standards.

For longtime Dynasty Warriors fans, the return of local two-player gameplay and the inclusion of Xtreme Legends content make the remaster particularly interesting.

For newcomers, it offers an opportunity to experience one of the games that helped establish the modern Musou formula without having to return to the original PlayStation 2-era hardware.
