Pakistan’s exports of telecom, computer and information services increased 17.7 percent to $1.246 billion during the first quarter (July-September) of FY2027, up from $1.059 billion in the corresponding period of last year, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The increase of $187 million underscores the growing contribution of IT and telecom services to the country’s foreign exchange earnings, with the sector accounting for nearly 46 percent of total services exports during the period.

On a year-on-year basis, the sector’s export receipts in September were also higher than the $368 million recorded in the same month of FY2026, reflecting continued expansion in Pakistan’s digital services exports.

The growth comes amid efforts to position Pakistan as a regional hub for information technology services, software development, freelancing and other digital businesses. IT and telecom services have emerged as an important source of foreign exchange, particularly as the country seeks to diversify its export base beyond traditional goods.

During July-September FY2027, total exports of services rose to $2.719 billion from $2.214 billion in the corresponding period of FY2026, an increase of 22.8 percent. IT and telecom services remained the largest contributor among the major services export categories, generating $1.246 billion in receipts.

Other business services exports increased to $622 million during the first quarter, compared with $486 million a year earlier, while transport services exports rose to $295 million from $269 million.
